4.0 out of 5 stars Comcast won't activate! EDIT: Use Chat Support to Activate!, January 8, 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Motorola SURFboard SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem (Personal Computers)
After being placed on hold for 10 minutes with technical support, I was informed that Comcast wouldn't activate it because I didn't buy it from an "authorized retailer". The interesting part is that Best Buy is the ONLY authorized retailer. I asked the tech support rep if it's an issue of trust with the Motorola brand (counterfeiting, shoddy equipment, etc...) and he just towed the company line and said, "sir, I'm sorry, but you need to purchase this from Best Buy and not Amazon.com". I was flabbergasted.

As of the writing of this review, Best Buy is offering this same modem for $30 more than Amazon, and Comcast just raised their modem rental fees from $5 to $6.61 in my area. I can't help but wonder what kind of profit sharing setup they've got behind the scenes. This feels like marketplace manipulation, collusion, or some other anti-trust lawsuit waiting to happen.

I'll probably try to call back in another day or two and claim that I bought it from Best... Read more

This modem was economical and very easy to install. I simply disconnected my old Comcast modem, connected my new Motorola Surfboard modem, and called Comcast to give them my MAC ID (located on the modem). Within five minutes I was connected to the internet with the same great speed!

Works great. Easy, hassle-free setup, no software install required, just connect the cables, call your cable company to register the modem over the phone and you're done.

This is the only Energy Star rated cable modem I could find. Power adaptor is compact and electronic--not a brick-- so it doesn't get hot or waste energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked as expected, April 7, 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Asus USB 3.0 Data Charger Cable for Asus EeePad TF101 TF201 SL201 (Personal Computers)
I don't usually write reviews, but since this product has so few reviews, I decided to try to balance out the existing review. I was between this cable and the cable offered directly from Asus. Since this one was ~$12.50 or $7.50 cheaper, I opted for this cable. My original cable had never worked with my dock, and eventually stopped charging the tablet itself. At that point I ordered this cable, and selected two day shipping through Amazon prime. It actually arrived the next day! I plugged it in and it charged both the dock, and the tablet. Now I don't have to replace the dock, as I originally thought I would. I have the Asus Transformer Prime, so I cannot comment on the compatibility with the original Transformer.

Works great as a replacement for the OEM cable. Would definitely recommend. I am now very happily typing this review from my Transformer Prime!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not charge my Prime (TF201), June 7, 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Asus USB 3.0 Data Charger Cable for Asus EeePad TF101 TF201 SL201 (Personal Computers)
It came in a sealed, clear plastic packaging, has the clear stickers around the connectors like new cables usually are now, but off the back I noticed that there were fingerprint smudges on the metal connectors so it gave me the impression that this was probably used-- or it could be the fingerprint smudges of whoever managed the packaging.

When I connected my Asus Transformer Prime, the Prime couldn't pick the connection up, and I had it connected to a wall port, unless I pushed the connector in (the side connecting to the tablet, not the wall port), using force I shouldn't be using, the Prime would pick it up. The thing is, when it finally picks up the charging cable, it loses it again (so it wouldn't charge), I'm assuming after I let go from putting so much pressure on it.

It looks very similar to the original cable, but there's something about it that makes it feel cheaply made, probably the "loose" connector is what made it seem cheap to me, and perhaps made... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for data, requires genuine ASUS tablet charger for charging, May 13, 2012

Doesn't work as advertised, the data connection works (to my PC), but the tablet doesn't charge. I doubt this cable is defective, it looks fine, it must be some design/manufacturing flaw. Hopefully, I can get a refund.

    Update:

Actually it does charge from generic USB chargers, but very, very, very slowly, and you can't use the tablet while it's charging. Aparantely, ASUS transformer needs 11-15 Volts, instead of the standard 5V to charge at normal rate, and to allow use of the tablet during charging. Original ASUS charger has a special pin, which tablet uses to tell the charger to increase the voltage (this way the charger can still output standard 5V for other devices). I am not sure if this cable supports that pin or not.

So, the solution is to buy genuine ASUS charger and cable, or if you like electrical DYI projects, to make a 12V USB charger yourself, from any standard 12V/1.0A+ charger and a barrel plug to female USB plug adapter. Either way,... Read more

    Dell XPS XPS13-9001sLV 13-Inch Laptop

    • 256GB Solid State Drive
    • 13-Inch Screen
    • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

    Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent speed and quality
I purchased this Dell XPS XPS13-9001sLV with i7 1.7 GHz processor, 4GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD about two weeks ago after a thorough search of the available reviews and spending several hours in the local Best Buy and MCX electronics section. I also looked at the Samsung, Sony, Asus, and Toshiba ultrabooks and with both i5 and i7 processors as well as briefly at the MacBook Air. I found generally that the ultrabooks were all competent players, each with one small thing the others lacked; usually in the form or function of video outputs or number of USB 3.0 ports.
For my work, I needed a Windows 7 platform. I have been running Ubuntu for the past two years because I couldnt stand how slow my old laptop with Windows XP had become. Recently the online tools I use switched to exclusively MS Internet Explorer which necessitated the purchase of a new machine.
In choosing the XPS it was a tradeoff in some capabilities (processor series and speed) and some quantity and type of outputs (1 USB3, 1 USB2, 1 mini Video, NO SDHC card reader) in order to have a smaller, lighter, more rigid, and potentially longer lasting device.
I have been extremely pleased with the operating speed of the XPS 13. In practical terms, the XPS boots from a cold start into Windows 7 in 12-13 seconds and boots into Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in 11-17 seconds. Additionally, it performs as advertised in its ability to wake from hibernation in 2-3 seconds and from a rest in about a second. Download and internet operating speeds are also excellent, and the fastest I've seen in any computer. My newest U.S. Govt. HP loads most sites like Hotmail or Facebook in 5-7 seconds, but the little XPS will do it in 1-2. I have downloaded several large files and installs and have been happy with the performance of the machine during sustained downloads as well.
When it comes to battery life I knew I was giving something up to get an ultrabook, but in practical usage it has been a pleasant surprise that I can get 3.5 hours out of a charge running Windows 7, surfing the net, downloading and running an external drive. In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS it is even more efficient pulling 4-5 hours, even while charging my phone.
The screen is bright and clear and quite large for such a small machine. Although perhaps not as hi-def as a full retina display, it is much more than DVD quality and plenty big enough. It provides a crisp image throughout and didn't display any tendencies towards motion tracking or blurring when I played a DVD.
The case is perhaps the most attractive part of the machine, but it also functions superbly as a stiff, light and durable frame. The little XPS is significantly stronger than any other laptop I have used, including my wife's MacBook Pro17. The XPS doesn't display any flex in the keyboard or hinge wobble. The build quality and strength were very important to me after my last laptop, a Sony Vaio, popped and flexed when I picked it up by the corner (allowing it to disconnect its own Wi-Fi card; and thereby making itself useless as a portable device).

    Pros:
    -Beautiful form factor
-Excellent feel of quality and durability
-Excellent speed and efficiency in a light weight package

    Cons:
-Only a few ports and no SD/HC reader means you will be buying external accessories if you don't already have them

Some of the deciding factors for me were:
    -Light, small, and easily portable
-Strong physical makeup to last a long time on the road and traveling
    -Good build quality
    -Good battery life
-Gorilla glass screen is durable, easy to clean and beautiful
-Most capable processor available in an XPS 13

Runner up was: Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C-A02US 15-Inch Ultrabook (Ash Black); $1499.99

Deciding factor: The XPS-13 exuded the most quality for the money/inspired the most confidence

Additional accessories or programs purchased or installed:
    -LG external DVD-R
    -USB 3.0 SD/SDHC/MiniSD/MemoryStick card reader
    -Mini video to HDMI plug/pigtail
    -Mini video to VGA plug/pigtail
    -USB Common Access Card Reader
    -ActivClient 6.2 software
    -MS Office 2010
    -Skype
    -Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
    -Libre Office Suite

Bought this for a friend, the 6520G graphics blows Intel HD 3000 out of the water. MW3 runs @720p no lag medium high settings. Tested NFS The Run (Frostbite 2 engine) works on medium low settings. Its not a gaming laptop but its excellent for the price. 750GB HDD is plenty of space. Steal of a deal for such a price. Build quality is solid.. looks great.. ASUS - enough said. Best laptop in its price range.

Had a Dell 4600 for 9 years.... Well solid built computer. So I gave another Dell a try! I couldn't believe this price for what you get! It's fast! It's light... (really light). I thought it would be heavy.. but easy for transporting. The HD screen is awesome...Great colors! It does have a 2.4gz processor... I could have had a 2.5 gz processor on another model, but for way more money... I didn't think the .1gz difference in processor speed would make much difference. Also no bloatware, just basic software. Dell Stage I don't use right now, but won't delete it. Maybe I will use it later. You can tell this is solid built as well! Glad I chose Dell again, that's for sure... And you know Dell has great customer support too. The finish on this thing is really nice, smooth, shiny. It's not too big to sit on your lap and the wifi works great for me! Better pick one up before they sell this one out!
